Ronnie Mdawida is the founder of Afribit Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, one of the most exciting Bitcoin circular economy projects in Africa. Based in Kibera, community members earn sats by recycling waste, while women upcycle discarded materials into bags and crafts, building skills and income with Bitcoin.
What makes Afribit Kibera truly stand out is how deeply Bitcoin is woven into everyday life. Entrepreneurs access Bitcoin microloans to grow their businesses, and local shops, barbers, and food vendors already accept Lightning payments so people can earn and spend Bitcoin entirely within their own community.
Community Calls are part of our Scholarship Program for Bitcoin educators and builders in the Global South. If you want to be a part and contribute to our growing community apply here for a scholarship.
