Modibe Matsepane is Africa Community Master at Fedi (https://www.fedi.xyz), leading the platform’s expansion across the continent. He introduced CTO scholars to Fedi and its Mini Apps ecosystem. He demonstrated how you can add your own apps or communities to Fedi.
Most importantly, he showed how Fedi’s community custody works. Community custody allows groups to collectively hold and manage Bitcoin, requiring multiple trusted members to approve transactions instead of relying on one individual. This resonates strongly with African traditions of collective saving and mutual support such as chama in Kenya, chilimba in Zambia, susu in Ghana, esusu in Nigeria, stokvel in South Africa, maround in Zimbabwe, nthumba in Malawi, upato in Tanzania, xitique in Mozambique, ixiquila in Angola, djanggi in Cameroon, likilemba in DR Congo, and tontines across Francophone West Africa.
Community Calls are part of our Scholarship Program for Bitcoin educators and builders in the Global South. If you want to be a part and contribute to our growing community apply here for a scholarship.
